Senapthi, a young extremist and Amirtham, a young woman who believes in naxalite methods are both part of the marathon struggle for independence. Thus, their goal is the same to free India from the clutches of the British. When Amirtham and other women are stripped for burning British goods, Amirtham, like others, contemplates suicide endeavours continue and consequently he joins Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Soon after India's Independence in 1947, Senapathi weds Amirtham. Amirtham gives birth to boy, Chandrabose and a girl, Kasturi.
Years roll by, Chandrabose applies for a job and is required to bribe the authorities to secure employment but idealist that he is, Senapathi firmly refuses to do so as a result of which, Chandrabose leaves the house Soon thereafter, Kasturi receives burns in an accidental fire and the doctor at the govt. Hospital askes for a police certificate before giving her treatment. Even police Inspector Vao declines to give this simple certificate unless offered a bribe. Eventually, lack of treatment leads to Kasturi's death.
The ferocious rebel in Senapathi again comes to the fore after Kasturi's death. This fierce combatant decides to wipe out all those who indulge themselves in taking bribes. He kills Inspector Vao, Corporation Commissioner and telecasts the doctor's murder on television to serve a warning to the public that similar treatment will be meted out to them if they demand bribes. This incident brings about an awakening among the people. Meanwhile, Chandrabose bribes the R.T.O. officials and becomes a R.T.O. inspector. He accepts Rs. 5,000/- as bribe for issuing a false certificate to a vehicle owner. The same vehicle meets with an accident killing 40 school children.
When Senapathi comes to know about his son's involvement in the accident, Senapathi does not allow blood relation to come in the way of his mission and slays his own son, becoming a role model for the nation and proving himself a true "HINDUSTANI".
